Gov. Ernie Fletcher's Chief of Staff Resigns

Governor Ernie Fletcher's senior advisor and former chief of staff has resigned.

Daniel Groves first notified Governor Fletcher of his intention to resign on September First. His resignation became effective Monday.

Groves says he resigned to pursue other career opportunities in the private sector.

Groves started working for Fletcher in 1994 as treasurer for Fletcher's campaign for the state house. In 1997, Groves managed Fletcher's campaign for US Congress and later became his chief of staff in the governor's office. In November, he became Fletcher's senior advisor in a shakeup of the executive cabinet.

Fletcher spokeswoman Jodi Whitaker says it was uncertain whether Groves' most recent position would be filled.

In a written statement, Fletcher said Groves had been a friend of his for more than 10 years and wished him well.
