HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Five dogs are dead after a house fire in northwest Huntsville.

Six Huntsville fire units responded to a house fire call on North Edgemont Circle just before noon Friday.

Heavy smoke and massive flames caused significant damage to the side of the house.

No people were inside the home, but several dogs were. HEMSI paramedics tried to give the dogs oxygen to save them but were unsuccessful.

Five dogs died in total. The owner said three puppies and their mother lived. The puppies were only a day old.

The fire has been ruled accidental by the fire marshal, according to the homeowner.
