Pregnant Middletown Woman Killed In Accident

Tragedy struck in Middletown when a pregnant woman was killed in an accident.

Tara M. Harper, 19, of Middletown was killed when the 1988 Dodge truck she was driving struck a utility pole.  According to officals she was driving a friend to the hospital who was suffering from kidney stones.  Harper, who was nine months pregnant, was transferred to Middletown Regional Hospital.  She was pronounced dead on arrival.  Medical staff then removed the baby from the womb.  The baby, a girl, died later.

Police say Harper was driving the truck north on Yankee Road when the truck struck a utility pole in the median which separates north and southbound traffic.  Weather could have been a contributing factor according to police.

Heavy thunderstorms rolled through the Tri-State last night.

According to police there were two other female passengers riding in the cab of the truck and two male passengers riding in the bed.  All four were transported to Fort Hamilton Hospital in Hamilton.  There condition is not known at this time.
