Grand Jury Investigates Death Of Indiana Newborn

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The Morgan County prosecutor is asking for a grand jury to investigate the death of a premature baby whose parents belong to a church that favors faith and prayer over doctors for healing.

Sarah Leeman died six days after she was born May 28th, two months premature. Her parents, Louis and Patricia Leeman of Martinsville, belong to the Church of the Firstborn in Gosport. Church elder Thomas Nation says the couple called 9-1-1 seeking medical help when the baby developed severe breathing problems. A telephone message seeking comment was left at the Leemans' home.

In May, a Johnson County jury found another couple guilty of reckless homicide for refusing to seek medical treatment to help their newborn daughter in 2003.
