Father Of Norwood Girl Arrested In Mall

The father of a murdered 13-year-old Norwood girl was arrested in connection with her death last night.

Police say Gordon Franklin, who was last seen walking around State Route 32 in Newtown apparently went to Eastgate Mall where he was apprehended by Union Township Police early this morning.  According to police, he has admitted to police that he killed his daughter.

This morning, authorities say that Gordon killed Danielle with a golf putter while she was asleep sometime around 7:30 yesterday morning.

On Thursday afternoon police found the body of Danielle Frankin in her bedroom at 2075 Maple.  Police at first thought her death might have been a suicide.  After some investigation, they named her father "a person of interest".

Thursday night, dozens of Danielle's friends and family gathered at her home to hold a candlelight vigil for the girl. Her friends say the Norwood Middle School cheerleader was outgoing and popular.

Students at her school found out about her murder just before the end of the day. "I was leaving school," Gentry Gabbard says, "and one of the cheerleaders just found out that they found her body dead, and it just hit everyone. There was a lot of people crying. It was really sad."

The group that met for the vigil, walked from Franklin's house to the school, just a few blocks away. Gabbard said, "Hopefully no one forgets this day and they don't forget Danielle."
