Gerry Kraus

Gerry Kraus is a 73 year old North Avondale civic activist who: (1) is making her first run for political office, (2) is a former Board of Health member advocating for community health and environmental issues, (3) is an Environmentalist, (4) advocates a neighborhhood centric city governance process, and (5) has a civic track record with many neighborhoods in the city. 

"I was born inMaine, grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Smith College in 1954 with a degree in Government.  I have lived in Cincinnati since 1952, have been married to Marvin Kraus for 47 years and have resided in our North Avondale home for 44 years.  We are parents of 3 sons (all of whom attended Cincinnati Public Schools) and the grandmother of 7 grandkids.  Our oldest and youngest sons, Jonathan and Matthew, are both Rabbis and teach at Wheaton College (MA) and the University of Cincinnati respectively.  Our middle son, Christopher, has been for 14 years Director of the Children’s Hospital/Cincinnati Public Schools PSI (Postponing Sexual Involvement) Program.  Chris is also a lawyer and works in the Hamilton County Public Defender’s Office.  We are long-time members of the Isaac M. Wise Temple.  We are also members of Rockdale Temple where our daughter-in-law, Sissy Coran, is Senior Rabbi."

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream that "one day people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."  Gerry Kraus wants to see Dr. King's dream become a reality in Cincinnati .
