Ohio Man to Face Execution

Governor Bob Taft has denied clemency for a man who strangled his mother-in-law and suffocated his five year old stepdaughter while he was on cocaine.

John Hicks is set to be executed by injection Tuesday morning at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.

The sentence is for the 1985 murder of Brandy Green, who had just turned five. Hicks also was sentenced up to 55 years in prison for killing and robbing Maxine Armstrong, 56.

Hicks' attorney says he is disappointed in the ruling. He says Taft should have more carefully considered the case. Hicks had asked Taft to commute his sentence to life in prison.

He has admitted to the murders but has tried to avoid the death penalty.
