Newport Man Kills Family

(NEWPORT, Ky) - A Newport man allegedly killed his family in their home on Tuesday morning.

Newport dispatch got a call from Richardson's son saying that his father called him and told him that 45-year-old Michael Richardson had killed his family and the family dog.

Police responded and noticed that there was movement inside Richardson's home at 15 Laycock Lane. Although they could see Richardson moving in the house they could not establish contact with him. Richardson was apparently walking around inside the home. The SWAT team was called in to establish communication with Richardson.

Eventually they got a cell phone number and negotiated with the print shop worker to surrender peacefully to police. He was armed with a semi-automatic handgun when he came out of the one story home over an hour later.

Police then entered and found the three victims who had apparently been shot to death. The victims have been identified as Richardson's daughter, Sunshine, her boyfriend Phillip Lesley, and Richardson's wife Joyce. Police also found several weapons including a 50-caliber gun on a tripod pointed at the front door.

Richardson has confessed to the killings, telling police he "just snapped."

Richardson is being charged with three counts of murder and is being held in the Campbell County Jail. He will be arraigned in court tomorrow.
