CAPITOL HILL - Police in Washington, D-C have reopened the Capitol building, but a House office building remains sealed off while officers investigate reports of shots fired.
The sound of gunfire was reported in the garage level of the Rayburn House Office Building. There has been no confirmation that the sounds were actually gunshots.
Four ambulances were sent to the scene.
The Senate was in session at the time. The House was not. But the House Intelligence Committee was holding a hearing. The congressman conducting the hearing interrupted a witness to advise those in attendance to stay in the room.
Capitol police have been going room to room in parts of the Capitol advising staff to stay in their offices.
Capitol Police say a news conference will begin shortly.
