When Betty Rushing got to work Wednesday morning, down the street from the Edwards Williams intersection a Cincinnati fire truck was already parked outside the Speedway gas station.
By 11am the entire intersections was besieged with emergency crews from Norwood,Cincinnati,ATF, FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Forece. A homemade bomb lay underneath the Williams overpass. But before the device could be disabled I-71 southbound and northbound near the Dana Avenue Edwards Smith exits had to be closed, turning the rest of I-71 into a parking lot. Businesses 300 feet fromteh bridge were evacuated to include Gold's Gym and Cornerstone Office Building. A small portion of the neighborhood off of Williams Ave. Duck Creek and Melrose were evacuated temporarily for safety concerns.
By 12:30 Cincinnati's bomb squad suited up walked the bridge recovered the device and disabled it. By 2:30pm I-71 was re-opened and the evacuation cancelled.
