Former Tri-State Football Player Dies from Injuries Received in Crash

TIFFIN -- A Tiffin University football player has died from the injuries he received in a car crash last week.  The university says Justin "B.J." Passarge died Tuesday morning.

Passarge was the driver of an SUV that apparently went through a stop sign at the intersection of State Route 53 and County Road 38, just north of Tiffin.  The SUV hit a tractor-trailer driven by Stanley Null of Ashland, Ohio.  Troopers say the vehicle hit the trailer just behind the cab, then went off the east side of the road and overturned.

Tiffin University will hold a memorial service for Passarge on Thursday, April 12, in the Gillmor Student Center gymnasium beginning at 3:00 p.m.  Passarge, who played for the Tiffin University Dragon football team, graduated from Glen Este High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.  At Tiffin University, he majored in criminal justice.

"The center of any university is its students," said TU President Paul Marion in a prepared statement.  "TU faculty, staff and students will work closely with each other during this challenging time.  Our thoughts and prayers are with B.J.'s family and friends."

The two passengers from Passarge's vehicle are still hospitalized.  Joshua Carver of Berea, Ohio, is still in the University of Toledo Medical Center with serious injuries.  Osman Gulecyuz, a foreign exchange student from Turkey, was flown to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, where he's still being treated.

Null, driver of the tractor-trailer, was not hurt.  His truck was disabled, and had to be towed from the scene.
