(HAMILTON, OH) -- He's served his community for more than 30 years as an elected official and Wednesday Butler County Commissioner Mike Fox decided to step down.
Fox made it official handing over his resignation Wednesday afternoon. Saying he wants to become the executive director of the county's children services department.
The department has been criticized for months after Marcus Fiesel's murder.
"The death of Marcus Fiesel and the findings of the commissioners task force underscore the importance of our doing a better job protecting children from harm," said Fox. "Marcus Fiesel's short life and tragic death reminded us that we can and must do better."
Fox says his decision to resign was difficult and emotional.
