CPS Eighth Graders Can Now Select Which High School They Wish To Attend

(CINCINNATI) -- Beginning Monday, Jan. 14, Cincinnati Public Schools' eighth graders will begin selecting high schools for the next year.

CPS offers 28 programs at its 17 high schools, which are open to students living anywhere in the Cincinnati Public School District. CPS no longer has attendance boundaries that tie a student's home address to a specific high school.

This is the third year that eighth graders will used a districtwide system that allows them to apply online for high schools using CPS-networked computers. The system simplifies the application process, eliminating the need for parents to go to high schools to apply and increasing students' chances of getting their first-choice schools.

Eighth graders are encouraged to apply during the 2008-09 Ninth Grade Application Period, which runs Jan. 14-23.

The online application system is also open to 8th graders who do not currently attend a CPS school. They may apply to CPS high schools by entering applications on CPS-networked computers at the district's Computer Help Center, at 2651 Burnet Ave. in Corryville.
