(FINNEYTOWN, OH) -- A Finneytown family is overjoyed, and shocked, when their dog returned after 40 days of being missing.
Lucky the dog disappeared on Jan. 1, but when his owner opened his front door on Friday afternoon, he saw Lucky had returned.
"He was so weak, but he still managed to wag his tail when he came home. He was just elated. We were astonished. When he came in, still in his condition, he didn't like tracking dirt in on the house," said Lucky's owner's son, Woody Retherford.
Lucky was a little beat up when he retured. He had to have surgery today to amputate one of his legs as a result of getting it stuck in a steel jaw trap.
Retherford says the dog really lived up to his name -- Lucky.
