(BURLINGTON, KY) -- A construction worker found what appeared to be a pipe bomb Wednesday morning at the corner of Ky. 20 and Petersburg Road.
Officials say the device was metal 1.5 inch diameter pipe measuring approximately six inches in length with end caps. It was found around 10:20 a.m.
The Cincinnati Fire Department Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit disabled the device by means of shooting it with a charge that immobilized the device. In doing so, one of the end caps came off and was located nearby. Police are unsure of the length of the pipe to determine if there was any explosive material inside.
The device has been rendered inoperative and is no longer a threat to public safety.
The operation caused Petersburg Road to be shut down approximately three hours.
