Update: Police say the clerk at Hollywood Liquor made up a story about a robbery.
The clerk, Raid El Hayek, has been charged with falsely reporting an incident. Investigators located the man in the surveillance video and interview him. During a follow up interview with El Hayek, police say he admitted to concocting his original story.
Boone County police are investigating a robbery that occurred Monday night at the Hollywood Liquor store in the 300 block of Mount Zion Road.
Police say the suspect used a stick or ball bat as a weapon. Originally, he walked into the store and asked for a pack of Marlboro cigarettes. He then said he wouldn't buy from the employee, a Middle Eastener, and walked back out of the store.
The clerk observed him to to a white Pontiac Grand Am with a woman in the passenger seat and retrieve a white stick or ball bat and then walk back into the store, where he demanded all the cash in the cash register.
The clerk made no attempt to open the register and the man left the store. The clerk followed the man out of the store into the parking lot, where the suspect held up his wallet and said he was a police officer before getting into the car and driving off.
The clerk describes the suspect as a white male, about 25 years old with dark hair wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt and plaid jacket.
