Police Kill Suspected Bank Robber In Louisville

LOUISVILLE -- A man suspected of robbing the Stock Yards Bank at 4825 South Third Street in Louisville was fatally shot by police Monday.

Police say the incident began after reports of a hold-up at the bank and of shots fired about 11:30 a.m. Police tell us they found a person matching the description of the suspect at Third and Tenney.

A witness who lives in the area says he came out of the house when he heard a loud commotion. He says he heard officers order the suspect to raise his hands as he sat in the driver's seat of a blue Ford Taurus.

The witness says instead of following officer's orders, he instead began to exit the vehicle, and that's when multiple shots were fired.

Louisville police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said the suspect had a gun and pointed it at officers before the shooting.

The incident remained under investigation Monday afternoon. The identity of the dead man and the officers who fired the fatal shots were not immediately available.
