Death of Louisville infant investigated

LOUISVILLE -- Metro police are investigating the death of an infant in Pleasure Ridge Park. Investigators were called to a home in the 3600 block of Alameter Drive around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

LMPD homicide unit tell WAVE 3 News they don't know when the baby was born, but early indications show it was in the last two days. The teenage mother was taken by ambulance to a Louisville hospital.

Detectives wouldn't say whether the baby was born alive or dead, or why it was possibly two days after the birth before the call went out.

"Due to the circumstances surrounding it, our homicide unit is conducting a death investigation.  We will know more once the medical examiner releases their findings.  At this point it's just a death investigation," said Det. Phil Russell, LMPD public information officer.

Investigators say they won't be able to determine if the baby was born alive or if it was stillborn, until after the medical examiner performs an autopsy.

As of late Tuesday night, no one has been charged.
