Indiana Couple Killed In Crash

(SWITZERLAND COUNTY, IN) -- An Indiana couple had died following a traffic crash on state Route 250 near Lake Geneva Rd. in Switzerland County.

Police say just after 8 a.m., a 1999 Mack trash truck was traveling eastbound on SR 250 when a wheel came off the vehicle.

The driver, Richard K. Hilligoss, 36, of Vevay, stopped teh truck in the middle of the roadway and exited the vehicle to check the wheel. Meanwhile, a 1993 Toyota driven by James T. May, 65, of Vevay, crested the hill and struck the rear of the trash truck.

Investigators believe May didn't have a chance to apply his brakes before impact. He and his wife, Charlene May, 62, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say neither of them were wearing seat belts. The crash remains under investigation.
