Skateboarder Critically Injured After Being Hit By Car

(MILFORD, OH) -- A skateboarder was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after he was struck by a car early Tuesday morning.

Police say around 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a car driven by Jeff Hedges, 46, of Batavia was traveling eastbound on Main St. in Batavia when it struck Andrew Lumb, 21, who was riding a skateboard northbound down a hill on Valley View Circle. Investigators believe Lumb failed to stop for a stop sign and continued right in front of Hedges' vehicle.

Lumb was flown to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Hedges was wearing a seatbelt and not injured in the crash. Police say Lumb was not wearing a helmet and did not have on any reflective clothing.

Alcohol and/or drugs to not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
