(DILLSBORO, IN) -- A Dearborn County town is in a bind after losing two thirds of its police department.
Dillsboro police chief Ryan Brandt says the department's only sergeant has resigned effective in October, but the town council accepted the resignation immediately at Monday night's meeting. When that happened, the department's part time officer and two reserve officers also quit.
The police chief says the resignations stem from complaints about pay and pensions.
The chief will be the only officer on regular patrol. Another reserve officer also remains on staff. Other help will come from the county sheriff and state police.
"The guys who resigned were excellent officers, and I hated to see them leave," Chief Brandt said.
