Clermont Co. adds bus routes to help commuters with high price of gas

(BATAVIA, OH) -- Travel in Clermont County is getting a little easier, and cheaper.

Clermont Transportation Connection is planning to offer shuttle bus service to residents in Goshen, Milford and Miami Township.

The routes will inlude 60 stops and cost $1.50 for a one way ride.

"We've been getting a steady stream of requests from citizens in that area requesting service," said CTC Director Ben Capelle.  "We anticipate starting the shuttle later this year with service operating from 6:30 in the morning until 6 in the evening."

Among the shuttle stops planned are Wood and Main Streets in Goshen, the Park 50 TechneCenter in Miami Township, Main Street in Milford, and Showcase Cinemas in the River's Edge Shopping Center.

The shuttle will also connect with Metro busses that transport passengers to downtown Cincinnati.

"With gas prices expected to stay high for the year, this will be a great way for people to save money and relax by reading the paper or a book before they get to work," said Capelle.  "By running the shuttle, CTC can also save on fuel costs; in recent months we've experienced an increasing demand for CTC's Dial-a-Ride service in those areas."

The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Regional Council of Governments will pay half of the estimated $193,000 in operating costs for the first two years of the shuttle.  The new Route 3 bus shuttle will cost $1.50 for adults, $1 for students, and $.75 for seniors, people with disabilities, and small children.
