Small community remembers fallen canine mayor

(RABBIT HASH, KY) -- A local politician has passed away and a small community won't soon forget him.

Junior Cochran, the dog mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, died last week. He was 15 years old.

Local residents say that Cochran left behind a legacy of service to the community despite spending some time in the dog house.

"He was a great mayor. The kids all liked him the best and they would do old timers day, labor day weekend was the biggest day he could come down and kids just loved it," said Rabbit Hash resident Suzanne Hobbs.

Junior ended up in office after a fundraising election by the local historical society. He beat out another dog and a donkey to become "Hizzoner".

No word yet on when another election will be held.
