(MORNINGVIEW, KY) -- A Kenton County police officer involved in a crash late Monday night is out of the hospital.
Investigators say the officer, Gary Helton, and another officer, Jake Noe, were on the scene of wreck involving a vehicle and a deer on state Route 177 near Morningview. When Helton pulled southbound into the northbound lane to go around the accident vehicle, he was struck head on by a water truck. Both the truck and the cruiser tumbled down an embankment.
The driver of the truck, Benjamin Heeger II, and his passenger, Jared Heeger, were both transported to St. Elizabeth South, where they were treated and released.
Officer Helton was also taken to St. Elizabeth and treated and released. Officer Noe was not in the vehicle, but sustained a cut on his hand when he was attempting to get out of the way of the water truck.
