Boone Co. man faces 50 counts of child porn

(UNION, KY) -- A Boone County man has been arrested on federal child pornography charges as a result of an investigation conducted by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

Edwin Simonds, 62, of Union, Ky., was arrested on Friday and charged with 25 counts of Receipt of child pornography and 25 counts of Possession of child pornography. 

A forensics expert located over 46,000 images and some 1,400 video files depicting child pornography on Simonds' home computer.

In September 2007, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) received an anonymous complaint on its CyberTipline (www.ncmec.org) concerning Simonds.  The information was forwarded to the Kentucky region of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force and then to the Boone County Sheriff's Department for investigation. 

Simonds was arraigned in federal court on Monday and is scheduled for a detention hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008. 

He remains in the Boone County Detention Center.
