HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -- A woman sits behind bars on charges that she struck a 4-year-old child with her car and then took off.
Decatur Police arrested Kelli Rene Cowart shortly after the incident Tuesday night at a mobile home park on Wynn Wallace Drive in Morgan County.
Authorities say Cowart backed over the child and left the scene.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
Decatur Police found Cowart's car on Harold Drive, not far from where she lives.
Cowart faces several charges including, driving under the influence among other charges.
This accident is still under investigation.
