OREGON (WTOL) - The Oregon School Board chose Dr. Michael Zalar as their new superintendent. Zalar had been Clay High School's principal for the past five years.
The board tells News 11 Dr. Zalar has the experience and familiarity with the district that families need. Plus, his management style appealed to the members.
The district is facing funding issues and Zalar says he's ready to hit the ground running. "The biggest thing is we have to define our current reality. We have to get everybody in the district to agree where we are financially, and we have to get an action plan together."
Zalar gets a three-year contract and will be paid nearly $109,000 a year.
