Man suffering from critical injuries after being hit by Metro bus

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -- A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition Wednesday morning after he was hit by a Metro bus in downtown Cincinnati.

It happened near the corner of 9th and Vine around 6:30 a.m.

Police say Howard Swartz, 47, approached the Metro driver from the rear as it was stopped on Vine St. As the bus continued on Vine, Swartz fell from the sidewalk and was struck by the right side rear wheels of the bus.

The Metro driver, Darnelle Foster, 35, of Westwood, was unaware of the crash until it was stopped on  Central Parkway moments later.

Swartz was taken to UC Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. Police say his injuries are life-threatening.

Foster was not injured in the crash and was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Any witnesses should call the Traffic Unit at 513-352-2514.
