LIBERTY TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -- A shocking crime in Liberty Township has neighbors upset.

James Fitzhugh, 20, is accused of raping a 21-month-old girl in his care.

The grandmother of the child said she and her family didn't want to talk about this case, but she did say the child is doing better.

Around Liberty Township, many other neighbors are talking about what police say happened, and many are angry.

Jay Michels lived near the home where police say Fitzhugh sexually assaulted the girl earlier this week.

"I hope the kid's alright," Michels said after looking at the public report on the suspected rape.

Michels, a father of a toddler himselfm says he can't understand how it could have happened.

"I couldn't imagine what would be going through someone's head that would motivate you to do something that horrible," he said.

In a community with many kids, that's how a lot of people feel.

"How old he is, and what he did to her, it just really makes me angry," said Jamie Lomphoy, anther neighbor.

Butler County investigators say Fitzhugh faces one count of rape, and two counts of child endangerment.

Detectives say the 20 year old was taking care of the chid when he raped her.

He posted bond on Thursday and will be in court again later this month.
