UPDATE: Teen seriously injured in I-71 accident

UPDATE: A teenager is in serious condition following a crash on Interstate 71.

Police say Phillip Brandewie, 18, of Cincinnati, was driving his Saab 9.5 eastbound on Ronald Reagan attempting to enter northbound I-71 when he lost control of his vehicle, exited the left side of the entrance ramp and entered into the northbound lanes of I-71. He was then struck by a semi truck driven by Joe Richey, 64, of Cincinati.

Brandewie was entrapped in the wreckage for aboutn 30 minutes before he was freed and taken to University Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition. Richey was not injured.

Police say both drivers were using seat belts and drugs and/or alcohol are not factors in the crash. Brandewie was charged with Failure to Control his Motor Vehicle.

UPDATE: The interstate is now reopen.

UPDATE: One lane of traffic has been reopened.


An accident has shut down northbound Interstate 71 at Ronald Reagan Highway.

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. There is debris in the roadway and multiple emergency crews are on the scene.

There is no word on any injuries or how many vehicles were involved.
