HEBRON, KY (FOX19) - A local hotel auditor is behind bars, accused of stealing a laptop, and then reporting he was robbed.

Around 3 a.m. Monday morning, the night auditor at the Country Inn Suites in  Hebron reported being robbed at gunpoint by two men, both concealing their identities using red bandanas. The auditor said money and the storage device for the security camera were taken.

Later on Monday, the night auditor, Joshua Napier, 25, of Independence, was arrested for falsely reporting an incident and two counts of theft by unlawful taking over $300. An additional charge of tampering with evidence is forthcoming.

Police say Napier admitted to taking a customer's laptop the night prior and devised this scheme to destroy the video of him taking the computer.

Napier is being held in the Boone County Detention Center in lieu of a $2,000 bond.
