WEST END, OH (FOX19) - A demolition crew tearing down the old Taft High School caused a power outage in the West End Thursday morning.

It happened before 10 a.m. at the corner of Ezzard Charles and Central Ave.

The crew accidentally knocked over a transformer, knocking power out to several homes and businesses in the area. Streelights were also out, so Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputies had to direct traffic in some areas.

As a result, Cincinnati Public Schools says Virtual High School on Ezzard Charles Drive will be closed for the afternoon session, and GED evening classes are cancelled at the Queen City Center.

In addition, Theodore Berry afternoon classes at CHCCAA Headstart were cancelled Thursday, and the Findlay Market Campus of Chatfield College was also closed.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, most of the power had been restored to the area.

No one was hurt in the incident.
