COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A woman has died in an alcohol-related crash in Colerain Township.
It happened just before midnight on Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Police say a 2004 Explorer driven by William A. Campbell, 38, of Cincinnati, was traveling southbound on Miles Road from Glenrock Drive when he was observed by an off-duty deputy sheriff driving in a reckless matter. Campbell continued south on Miles Road, failing to stop at an intersection. That's when the deputy activated his overhead emergency lights, and Campbell increased his speed.
As Campbell approached the intersection of Adams Raod, he slammed on his brakes in an attempt to make a turn at the intersection. He then traveled across the front lawn of Northview Wesleyan Church and struck a pine tree.
He continued through the tree and struck the northwest corner wall of the church, located in the 2400 block of Adams Road. Upon impact, Campbell was ejected through the windshield of his vehicle.
He was transported to University Hospital and is listed in stable condition. A passenger in his car, Tina Hayes, 38, of Norwood, died at the scene.
Police say neither Hayes nor Campbell were wearing seatbelts and alcohol is believed to be a factor.
Campbell faces one charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.
The crash remains under investigation.
