WESTWOOD, OH (FOX19) - An attempted robbery in Westwood is foiled after the store owner fights back, sending one of the suspects to the hospital.

It happened around 11 p.m. Monday night at the Friendly's Market.

It was one store owner versus a group of guys who tried to steal beer and other items from the store.

On their way out were confronted by the owner, and the group began kicking, punching and beating him.

The owner defended himself by grabbing a knife that was for sale in a display case. He stabbed one of the guys pretty badly. The group of suspects ran to the parking lot and then drove their friend to Mercy Hospital Western Hills, where he was then Air-Cared to University Hospital in critical condition.

The other suspects were arrested by police at the hospital. Five were taken into custody, but police say its unclear how many or which ones attacked the store owner.

The names and ages of the suspects involved aren't available right now.

Authorities say whoever did this faces an aggravated robbery charge, but didn't say if anything will happen to the store owner.
