CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -- A tip from Crimestoppers leads to an arrest in a northern Kentucky murder.
Crimestoppers received a tip regarding the shooting death of 17-year-old Chafonta Hixon.
With that tip, officer arrested 19-year-old Keshawn Johnson.
A few years ago, Hixon was a witness in a murder trial in Cincinnati. His family moved here to Newport, thinking it would get him away from trouble.
But just about two weeks ago, Chafonta was shot to death after hanging around the wrong people.
Jackie evans buried her son just as Cincinnati Police arrested Johnson in his death.
Evans had come to warn her son after a friend had said four people were looking for Chafonta, and they had guns.
Jackie was pistol-whipped and her finger was crushed.
"All four of them chased him down," said Evans. "And then you hear the next set of shots go off. All in his back. And he fell forward. I fell on top of him and asked them to kill me too."
Johnson's arrest is bittersweet since Evans says more people were involved who have not yet been charged.
"I'd rather them be a man and turn themselves in," said Hixon's stepfather, Leroy Boner. "Because if they were involved with it, then what are you hiding for? Go and turn yourself in. Be a man."
Johnson is now charged with murder and is currently being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center awaiting extradition back to Kentucky.
Hixon leaves behind a young daughter.
NEWPORT, KY (FOX19) - Police are investigating a murder in Newport.
Shots were fired just after 11 p.m. at the corner of Fifth and Patterson.
Police say an 18-year-old boy was shot then transported to University Hospital, where he died. He has been identified as Chafonta Hixon, of Newport.
Witnesses say there was a physical fight between a group before the shots were fired. K-9 units were out early this morning looking for a suspect, but no arrests have been made. Police say it is a "strong possibility" that the suspect is a teenage girl that Hixon was involved with.
