PA man arrested for having over 50 pounds of pot

RICHWOOD, KY (FOX19)-- A Pittsburgh man was arrested and charged with having over fifty pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:30pm, a Boone County Sheriff's Deputy stopped 28-year old Douglas Austen on I-75 for an invalid licence plate on the van he was driving.

During the traffic stop, Deputy John Christmann noticed a strong odor of marijuana and began to search the vehicle.

Deputy Christmann found four bundles or wrapped marijuana ranging from 2 to 22 pounds.

Austen was charged with Trafficking marijuana, Improper registration, and Operating on a suspended licence.

Deputy Christmann is a member of the Criminal Interdiction Traffic Enforcement (CITE) team. CITE deputies are specially trained to detect highway drug running.
