Recipe from Theresa Taylor of Montgomery, Ala.
Prep Time: 20 min
Total Time: 80 min
1 lb. ground hot or mild pork sausage
1/2 lb. hamburger
1 lb. polska kielbasa sausage
a large onion chopped fine
dirty rice mix
1 8-10 oz can crushed or chopped tomatoes
1 lb medium frozen shrimp (already peeled deveined and cooked)
1. Brown ground sausage, hamburger and drain grease. Add to large dutch oven pot with a lid.
2. Slice and cook polska kielbasa sausage with onions till they are translucent and add that to the large pot.
3. Add tomatoes, box of dirty rice and 8 oz of water. Slow cook the mixture until rice is done...slow cooking takes an hour covered with the lid and stirred to keep from sticking.
4. Add pre-cooked shrimp to the pot and stir in....let the shrimp get hot. Season to taste with garlic, garlic powder, salt and/or pepper....sit and eat!
Yield: 12-15 servings
Comments: Good with sliced and toasted five grain crusty baton bread and salad.
