HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Investigators say utility workers were the ones who found the body of a baby in a ditch in Horry County early Thursday evening.
Sgt. Robert Kegler of the Horry County Police Department says the baby was found around 4:15 p.m. Thursday off of Highway 544 on Meadowbrook Drive. The baby's body was found near a street and wooded area.
Police are on scene investigating and say they have no suspects at the moment. Currently, they are interviewing those residents who live in the area where the body was found for more clues.
Kegler told WMBF that it is unclear if the baby was a stillborn and disposed of, or abandoned after birth by its mother. The baby is expected to be transported to the Medical University of South Carolina for an autopsy tomorrow that will help answer those questions.
