Small job cuts add up to big trouble

SUNMAN, IN (FOX19) - Dire economic news is leading to job cuts across the country.

Many cuts are coming in small doses at small companies in small towns. But those little cuts add up to big trouble.

Over 400 jobs in Kentucky will be eliminated after the new year. Cintas will be shutting down two plants in eastern Kentucky and Sunsping America Inc. will be cutting its workforce by two thirds.

In Southeast Indiana, J & J Packaging laid off its second shift yesterday from its plant in Sunman. The company packages items for Proctor and Gamble like Duracell Batteries, Febreze and Oil of Olay products.

"It's a trickle down effect," said Sandy Gorman, president of the Sunman Chamber of Commerce. "It effects your restaurants, your grocery stores, and the retail market in the area."

Workers found out one day in advance by a memo saying production would be slowing down and the second shift is eliminated.
