Former local jail guards sentenced

Posted by Trina Kinstler - email

COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - Three former Grant County prison guards convicted in the case of a teen who was attacked behind bars by adult inmates were sentenced on Monday.

One guard ended up with half the prison time of two of his employees becasue he agreed to testify against them.

Those guards, Wes Lanham and Sean Freeman, were convicted in August of violating the rights of the victim. Lanham got 15 years, while Freeman ended up with 14 years.

An appeal is planned.

"We are disappointed in the decision," said Randy Blankenship, Freeman's attorney. "We believe the court was wrong in find him guilty we believe we are representing an innocent man. He risks his life for the benefit of others. We're convinced we're respresenting an innocent man we've belived that from day one and we're looking forward to the opportunity to filing an appeal on his behalf tomorrow."

The men are allowed to spend Christmas with their families before reporting to jail.
