French Toast Casserole from Hamilton County Parks

Recipe for 8 servings

6-7 cups bread cubes, any bread will work, Italian bread is the best to use

4 eggs

2 cups whole milk

¼ cup white sugar, divided

¼ teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon butter softened

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup raisins

1 cup apples

Generously grease a 9X13 inch baking dish with butter

Line bottom of pan with 5 cups of bread cubes, 1 cup apples and ¼ cup raisins

In large bowl whisk 1 ½ cup milk, 4 eggs, 2 tablespoons sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon vanilla and pour over the bread and fruit.

Sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon cinnamon and 2 tablespoons sugar and dot with butter

Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate. The bread will absorb all of the milk custard over night

Bake at a 385 degree preheated oven about 45 minutes, or until puffed and golden

Cut into generous squares and serve with maple syrup.
