Woman, child found dead in Evansville motel room

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Police say a woman and a child have been found shot to death in an Evansville motel room.

The woman is believed to be in her 20s, and the child is estimated to be about 4 years old. Their identities weren't immediately released Friday.

Evansville police Lt. Dan DeYoung says the two were found in a bed with blankets pulled up to their necks. Both had head wounds. A gun was found in the room and the door was chained shut from the inside.

A motel worker reportedly had to kick the door open. Police suspect the deaths may be a murder-suicide. Maintenance workers at the Motel 6 found the bodies shortly after noon Friday.
