GLENDALE, OH (FOX19) - A local man was in court Wednesday facing charges of receiving stolen property after he allegedly acted as a valet and stole a minivan.
Police say Chris Burnett, 42, acted as a valet at the Grand Finale Restaurant in Glendale, then took off with a Chrysler minivan that was being driven by Father Joseph Greenwell of Immaculate Conception Rectory Church.
"He offered a third time and I said OK," said Fr. Greenwell. "The keys were already in the ignition I believe, and I was still in the drivers seat. So we let him put the car away, and he said he would bring the keys back to us."
But that never happened. The poser valet and van were gone. Burnett was arrested two hours later.
"In all honesty, this is the first time I've ever heard of this kind of approach to auto theft," said Lt. Dave LeCompte with Glendale Police.
Glendale Police say while unconventional, the tactic worked.
"I would term it creative, and it worked, at least last night. I doubt that it will work again in the village of Glendale," said LeCompte.
