CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has announced that one of the members of their Cat Ambassador program, a 12-year-old cheetah named Moya, has died.

The zoo says Moya passed away on Jan. 26 during a seizure. In the wild , a cheetah's life expectancy is 8 to 10 years.

The Cat Ambassador Program is an educational assembly that takes cheetahs and other cats to hundreds of thousands school children a year.

Moya came to the zoo from the Cheetah Outreach Program in South Africa as a young cub. On June 13, 2000 at the Kentucky Speedway, Moya set the world record for all land mammals, including humans, in the Olympic 100-meter dash. The record stood until Moya's brother broke it in South Africa.
