Emergency workers honored for quick thinking during house fire

LAKESIDE PARK, KY (FOX19) - Saving lives is something that emergency workers are trained to do.

Last month in Lakeside Park, that training paid off and a family is alive.

Two dispatchers and an officer will be honored by Lakeside City council on Monday for their heroic acts.

Last month, the Lavoir family home on Farmdale Court caught fire, trapping the mom, two kids and the family dog inside a bedroom on the second floor.

Dispatchers Ryan Straw and David Polly kept them calm, and when the family got out of a window and dangled from the ledge, Officer Mike Paolucci helped them to the ground.

He was the only officer on duty that morning and caught everyone, including the dog, before the whole house went up in flames.

Officer Paoucci said if any other officer would have been there, they would have done the same thing.

All three emergency workers, along with the family, will be at Monday's city council meeting at 7 p.m.
