Local police searching nationwide for child porn victims

BETHEL, OH (FOX19) - Bethel Police are working with the FBI to find children they say are victims of a local man arrested in San Diego on Friday.

What's tough about this case is determining who the victims are, where they are, and how many of them there are.

Police say the pornography found on John Kopkowski's computer was of boys and girls between the ages of 4 and 17.

Bethel Police and the FBI say Kopkowski fled to San Diego to be with his father, and it was a visit to the VA Hospital there that tipped them off.

He was arrested without incident and could be back in Clermont County within a week to face fifty charges, all involving child porn.

"Depending on what happens with the victims the devastation is severe and the FBI takes very seriously," said Mark Batts with the FBI.

Copies of the pictures, the likes of which Bethel Police say are the worst they've ever seen, have been sent to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Center for Missing and Exploited children to figure out if any of the victims have been identified by law enformcement in previous investigations.

Police call Kopkowski a 'transient individual.' They say they're working to determine if he was downloading the pictures, or also taking them himself.

Either way, they say it's disturbing, and they're glad he's in custody, so no other children become victims.
