OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - A Miami Univeristy freshman uncovered a rare find while she was working on a class project.
Lydia Smith, a psychology major from Granville, Ohio, was transcribing a letter Abraham Lincoln wrote when she noticed a smudge that she suspected could be a thumbprint.
Lincoln historians confirmed that it was indeed Lincoln's thumbprint from a letter he wrote on Oct. 5, 1863. The letter was among hundreds of miscellaneous letters stored in Miami's Walter Havighurst Special Collections section of King Library and uncovered this fall.
