FORT WRIGHT, KY (FOX19) - The Fort Wright Wal-mart is closed Friday morning after a fire broke out on Thursday.

Around 7:20 p.m., fire crews responded to Walmart off a Route 17 for a report of a structure fire. Officials report that there was heavy smoke and fire in a garbage can and a maintenance room in the front of the building. The sprinkler system activated and contained the fire to that location.

The store was evacuated and one customer was taken to St Elizabeth Hospital for smoke inhalation. Fire crews tell FOX19 that the building suffered mostly water damage.

Officials say that it may take one to two days for the store to reopen. Walmart will have to assess the damages and make sure the grocery products are safe for consumers.

The fire is still under investigation.
