Two Mason teens charged in 'sexting' case

MASON, OH (FOX19) - Two Mason juveniles have been charged for their involvement in sending and possessing nude photos over their cell phones, a practice known as "sexting."

Both juveniles are charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a misdemeanor of the first degree. The third juvenile under investigation will not face criminal charges.

"This is a disturbing and serious trend that we are seeing," Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel said. "Frankly, there should be a better law in place to handle these situations, but there is not. The way the statute reads these teenagers could be charged with a felony and be labeled as sex offenders for these acts. I don't believe that these teenagers are felons or sex offenders, but these are illegal and dangerous actions that must be stopped. A clear and convincing message must be sent to our teens that this type of behavior is not acceptable and that it can have dangerous and lasting consequences."
