CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton County coroner Dr. O'dell Owens held a press conference on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the case of Esme Kenney, the 13-year-old girl who was murdered over the weekend.

Dr. Owens says Kenney died of strangulation. Owens said she was "violently strangled."

The suspect in her death, Anthony Kirkland, is currently in jail on a $5.3 million bond.

Dr. Owens says there were burns to the lower half of Esme's body.

"I think he was hoping he could set the body on fire, then the brush would catch fire, destroying the evidence," Owens said.

Dr. Owens said Cincinnati Police are investigating the possiblity that her body was dumped. He thinks she died sometime Saturday afternoon, and there were indications of attempted sexual assault.

Owens said he is rushing DNA evidence in this case, but it will still take two weeks to get results.

Owens said it's hard to tell if she was tortured, but did say there was evidence of blunt trauma to her body, meaning she may have been hit or poked.
